Mexico City, 3 July 2025 — Sistema.bio, a global leader in biogas and regenerative agriculture, announced today that its Indian Carbon Program has earned an AAe rating from BeZero Carbon, one of the world’s leading carbon credit rating agencies. After a rigorous field and data review, the rating ranks the project’s millions of ERs amongst the highest quality in the market.
This independent assessment affirms Sistema.bio’s robust methodology for measuring and reducing methane emissions in smallholder agriculture, one of the most potent and under-addressed climate super pollutants. It is notable that the project received the highest-possible aaa grade for Permanence, indicating that there is no technical risk of impact reversal. The rating applies to the India project, but Sistema.bio uses the same methodology, technology and overall approach in nearly a dozen current carbon projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
“At Sistema.bio, we believe climate action must be grounded in real data, real communities, and real outcomes,” said Alexander Eaton, CEO and Co-Founder of Sistema.bio. “Receiving an overall ‘AAe’ rating and the ‘aaa’ permanence rating on a methane and carbon project reaching tens of thousands of smallholder farmers shows our team’s focus on combining the impacts for farmers and for the climate.”
The AAe rating, which signifies a very high likelihood that future carbon credits will deliver real, measurable, and durable climate impact, is a rare outcome in the voluntary carbon market: only 4% of projects that have issued credits and been evaluated by BeZero have received an AA rating, while there has never been an AA rating awarded in the waste or household sector before, placing the project among a select few globally. The “e” denotes the ex ante nature of the evaluation, conducted at the early stage of the project’s development.
“We design our programs with integrity from the ground up – combining robust and conservative baseline assessments with industry-leading digital MRV systems,” said Ed Agnew, Global Director of Carbon Partnerships at Sistema.bio. “Achieving this rating on our first fully in-house carbon project reinforces the strength of our approach and our commitment to delivering high-quality climate finance directly to smallholder farmers in India and beyond.”
Sistema.bio’s carbon program: high-integrity and transparent climate impact at scale
Sistema.bio’s carbon programs are built on fifteen years of delivering industry-leading biogas solutions on family farms. The high-quality carbon approach and operating model demonstrated in India are applied across all programs globally, designed and managed by a dedicated in-house carbon team, ensuring technical rigor, consistency, and end-to-end execution—from project design to monitoring and reporting.
The company aligns with the highest standards of quality and integrity in the market, and its India Carbon Program is also expected to issue among the first CCP-labelled carbon credits, aligning with the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market. This approach not only supports transparency for carbon buyers, but also contributes to raising the quality bar across the market.
With a footprint in over 30 countries, the company is uniquely positioned to scale solutions that merge climate technology, regenerative agriculture, and equitable development, while playing a key role in decarbonising an incredibly hard-to-abate sector.
