As a global social enterprise committed to improving life on Earth, Sistema.bio has always believed that farmers hold the key to a sustainable future—especially women farmers, who are the beating heart of this vision. Time and time again, our CEO, Alex Eaton, has reaffirmed that “The future of farming is female.” This belief has been the guiding force behind every step of our journey, and when we reached our 100,000th installation milestone in April 2024, there could not have been a better person to represent our mission than a female farmer herself.
Pooja Singh from Bhilwara, India, is a mother, a farmer, and now, the face of our 100,000th installation. She embodies the very essence of our mission. Pooja is not only our 100,000th farmer globally but also a symbol of what is possible when women are empowered with the tools and opportunities to lead change. Her story is the perfect testimony of how, when given access to clean energy and the right support, women like Pooja don’t just transform their homes—they transform entire communities, creating ripples of change that echo far beyond their farms.
For Pooja, the crackling sound of firewood and the sting of smoke-filled air were constant companions. Managing a household of five while caring for ten cows, she balanced her responsibilities with quiet resilience. However, despite her resourcefulness and an M.Sc. in Polytechnic Science, she faced the same challenges that many rural women endure—smoke-filled kitchens, health risks, and the constant struggle to gather firewood. While her husband, Devendra, works in the city managing an auto-sector business, Pooja has taken charge of their farm, which supplies milk to the Urmul Seemant Samiti.
Pooja’s turning point came when her veterinarian recommended the Sistema 8 biodigester to better manage cow dung. Since then, her life has transformed. Her family enjoys healthier meals, and her crops thrive, nourished by the nutrient-rich biofertilizer produced by the biodigester. Financially, the change has been a significant relief for her—she saves ₹1,000 every month on LPG and another ₹1,000 on chemical fertilizers. On top of that, she sells the surplus biofertiliser, which brings her an additional income of ₹4,400 to ₹5,000 every month.
“Since installing the biodigester, I have stopped spending money on LPG or chemical fertilisers,” Pooja says with pride. “My health has improved, and my farm is more productive than ever.”
For us, Pooja is not just a milestone; she is the embodiment of the change we’ve always believed in. A woman who, with access to the right tools, has turned her challenges into stepping stones. Pooja represents the heart of what we do—empowering farmers, especially women, to not only transform their homes but also their communities.
“I’m proud to be the 100,000th farmer using Sistema.bio. This biodigester has made my life easier, and I encourage others to use it too. It’s not just an investment in your farm; it’s an investment in your future,” Pooja says, her face beaming with satisfaction.
Pooja’s story is just one of many transformations made possible by biogas technology. Discover how our solutions can empower more farmers and create lasting change.
