Sistema.bio at the Africa Climate Summit: pioneering change, one conversation at a time

In a week filled with intense discussions, impactful dialogues, and transformative moments, Sistema.bio stood at the forefront of the Africa Climate Summit, leaving an indelible mark on the proceedings. Representing the organization with unwavering dedication and vision, CEO Alexander Eaton and Country Director Eng. Madrin Maina didn’t just attend; they led the way.
Alex and Madrin shared their expertise in panels hosted by KOKO Networks, the Clean Cooking Alliance, Acumen, Kawisafi, Blab Africa, and even participated in discussions with the First Lady of Kenya and other Government Officials from various African nations.

They were also interviewed by podcasts and publications focused on Climate Action in Africa.

At the heart of it all, Sistema.bio’s commitment to driving positive change shone brightly. The phenomenal team at the exhibition center showcased their passion, dedication, and creativity, drawing visitors like H.E. Dr. William Ruto, the President of Kenya.

Sistema.bio Mexico won the UN Global Compact LOGRA Award: The best Corporate Sustainability initiatives

This quarter, Sistema.bio Mexico achieved a significant milestone by receiving the LOGRA Award in the Planet category. This recognition was granted by the Global Compact Mexico in honor of the project titled “Energy security for Mayan communities” which was implemented in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, in collaboration  with the International Renewable Resources Institute (IRRI Mexico). Through this initiative, 1,500 biodigesters were installed, providing families in the Yucatan Peninsula region access to clean energy, organic fertilizer and a better quality of life.

The LOGRA Award celebrates corporate sustainability initiatives and acknowledges the leadership and positive impact of companies that are members of Global Compact Mexico, in terms of sustainability and their contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of this prestigious award, Sistema.bio had the opportunity to participate in the United Nations Leaders Summit in New York, held in conjunction with the 78th UN General Assembly and Climate Week.

This award serves as a testament to the impactful work of Sistema.bio and the positive influence of our technology on several of the SDGs. It underscores the importance of our collective efforts in addressing climate challenges and promoting a healthier planet for both current and future generations.

Elevating voices and insights: Sistema.bio India’s journey through key summits

In the past quarter, Sistema.bio India has been at the forefront of pivotal discussions shaping the narrative around biogas and the future of renewable energy.

The Net Zero Summit 2023

On July 7th, we attended the Net Zero Summit 2023, where our Country Director, Piyush Sohani, took the stage in a panel discussion, addressing ‘BBB Products, Materials, and Applications.’ Piyush shared profound insights on ‘Modern Biogas Technology: A Key Tool for Mitigating Climate Change,’ emphasizing its potential in reducing supply chain emissions and supporting corporations in meeting sustainability commitments. Notably, we proudly attended the event as the Climate and Food Security Partner.

The G20 India Energy Transition Working Group Event

Building on this momentum, we delved into the G20 India Energy Transition Working Group Event on July 20th, exploring the ‘Role of Decentralised Renewable Energy (DRE) to achieve SDG7.’ Organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Council of Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), and the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited, this successful event gave us an opportunity to connect with industry leaders, policymakers, and government officials. Additionally, our Country Director’s interview with ET Energy World added depth to our impactful presence.

The ICC Dairy Summit 2023

Closing the trilogy, we participated in the ICC Dairy Summit 2023 on September 14th, where our Country Director, Piyush Sohani spoke about ‘Innovative waste management systems for dairy farms’ that leads to healthy soil, healthy fodder, and healthy cattle. Organized and attended by prominent leaders in the dairy industry, this event was a great opportunity to explore the wide range of possibilities within the ever-growing landscape of the dairy industry.

Sistema.bio India’s unprecedented leap to 25,000 installations in 9 months

In our five-year journey in India, we’ve established a benchmark by installing 40,000 units across 21 states. So as 2023 unfolded, we set our sights on an audacious goal: replicating the impact of these last five years in just one! The challenge was immense, but our entire team rose to the occasion with unmatched dedication and tireless effort.

In an astounding display of perseverance, our Technical Operations teams led the way, pushing the boundaries of efficiency. Within a mere nine months, we celebrated the installation of 25,000 units, a testament to our unwavering dedication. But that’s not all – fueled by this success, we expanded our presence to 22 states, reaching even more communities.

This remarkable accomplishment isn’t just about numbers; it embodies the essence of Sistema.bio India. It’s a story written with hard work, innovation, and a shared determination to impact millions of farmers nationwide positively. As we forge ahead, our Technical Operations team remains united as our pillars, with their efforts resonating as the heartbeat of progress.

The roots of biogas in India can be traced back to 1897 when the world’s first biogas plant was constructed in a leper colony in Bombay. Over the ensuing decades, this technology has undergone a profound transformation, evolving into the innovative force we witness today.

In a recent episode, ‘The Morning Brief’ podcast delved into the evolution of biogas technology, tracing its remarkable journey from its historical origins to modern innovation. The podcast featured insights from pioneers in the Indian Biogas Industry, including Sistema.bio India.

The podcast team ventured into the heart of our newly inaugurated state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. Here, the listeners were introduced to our Country Director, Piyush Sohani, who engaged in a detailed conversation about our cutting-edge technology, manufacturing prowess, and our goal.

Sistema.bio shines at the Africa Youth Climate Assembly (AYCA)

Sistema.bio Kenya had the honor of participating in the Africa Youth Climate Assembly (AYCA), a gathering dedicated to uniting and amplifying the voices of African youth in the global fight against climate change. Held just days before the Africa Climate Summit, this event was a testament to the power of young minds and their innovative solutions.

During the opening ceremony of the Youth Assembly, Sistema.bio’s booth attracted the attention of none other than Kenyan President H.E Dr. William Ruto and renowned climate activist Elizabeth Wathuti. Both, accompanied by their delegations, were intrigued by our technology and recognized its potential to drive sustainable change.

Notably, the AYCA team did a feature video of our young farmers utilizing Sistema.bio technology for smart agriculture. This inspiring feature was showcased during the opening ceremony, captivating the audience of African leaders, policymakers, and thousands of young change-makers.

In his opening speech, President Ruto emphasized Africa’s capacity to prosper sustainably, offering climate-smart solutions for the world. He envisioned a future where youth lead the way, safeguarding our environment and transitioning toward greener, decarbonized consumption.

Demonstrating Impact to Partners and Investors: Kawisafi, Acumen and USAID

Sistema.bio Kenya recently hosted a field visit for teams from Kawisafi, Acumen, and USAID at our Githunguri hub in Kenya’s Central region. These organizations aren’t just our partners; they are investors and impact funders who share our vision for a sustainable future.

The visit provided a unique opportunity for our guests to witness the real-world impact of our technology on the lives of smallholder farmers in rural Kenya. Through on-site farm visits and insightful interviews with our farmers, they gained deep insights into how Sistema.bio’s solutions not only improve livelihoods but also expand clean energy access and promote regenerative agricultural practices.

This visit also emphasized the pivotal role our digesters play in mitigating climate change. The discussions highlighted the critical link between sustainable agricultural practices and clean energy solutions in building a more environmentally sustainable future.
